People of Tel Afer  were the first who have fired the revolution of the 1920s, the first who have resisted al-Qaeda terrorism and have tested the bitterness of their crimes in 2005 and 2006 and sacrificed by more than 2,000 martyrs in ongoing battles with al-Qaeda gangs.

In the war with Daesh, their blood, which have dropped on the land of Tharthar, Beiji, Mosul and other lands of Iraq is a witness to their patriotism and their sacrifice for the homeland.

The published statistics of the number of martyrs during the last three years in the war against Daesh, talks that the number of martyrs in the province of Basra reached (1000) martyrs, and the province of Nasiriyah (1200), while the martyrs of Iraqi Turkmen city of Tal Afar, exceeded (1300) martyrs, all of them are displaced with their families, and they are suffering and facing bitterness And the harshness of living in exile.

 In the battles to liberate the right coast of Mosul, the number of martyrs of Tal Afar so far (66) martyrs.

On 1st of June 2015 in the district of Tharthar 48 fighters killed from the sons of Tal Afar.

On 9th of February 2017 and during their response to the attack south of Tel Abtah (11) fighters from Tal Afar have been killed. 

Its sons have contributed to the liberation of dozens of cities and the return of their people to them and are still waiting for the liberation of their city , to return and live in it again. They are contributing to give the people the joy of returning home and safety, and they are deprived of this feeling.

After about four months (in September), we will commemorate the third anniversary of the victory of Turkmen forces in the district of ​​Amerli. It resisted with its modest military capabilities and sacrifices of their sons for eighty-three days. They suffered hunger, thirst, lack of medicine and the disruption of major services from water and electricity. This aggressive fight ended by opening of the siege after directing several regiments of fighters of PMF from southern Iraq to support the people of Amerli. This victory was nucleus to form the first Turkmen force in Iraq, which is then called the Turkmen PMF , who then contributed in many fierce battles in Tikrit, Beiji, Jurf Al Sakhr, Kirkuk and Mosul, the blood of Turkmen fighters is in every part of Iraq.

Targeting of Turkmen fighters by the terrorist gangs has not stopped over the past years, and in defense of Iraqi territory caravans carrying the Turkmen martyrs have not stopped too.

Iraqi Turkmen fighters in PMF, army and police units bravely defended a fierce terrorist attack with medium and heavy weapons. They infiltrated at dawn on Thursday, May 18, 2017, and tried to ambush the Turkmen forces near Amerli district , but they have surprised by the harsh response of Turkmen forces and the terrorists suffered heavy losses in lives and equipment.

On the political level, the Iraqi arena witnessed another Turkmen victory, but of a political kind this time. A general conference and under the auspices of the UN Mission in Iraq for Turkmen was held on Wednesday May 17, 2017, which included all Turkmen political, social and cultural representatives Speaker of parliment Dr. Salim al-Jubouri and the head of the UN mission in Iraq, Mr. Jan Kubis opened the conference officially . Representatives of Iraqi presidency, Iraqi prime minister and all diplomatic missions in Baghdad also attended the conference.

The conference stressed a set of vital points concerning Turkmens of Iraq and their fate in Iraq under the roof of citizenship.

The most important of these recommendations is the need to work to restore the rights of usurped Turkmen people by successive Iraqi governments before 2003, and by local forces after 2003.

The formation of the provinces of Tuz Khurmatoo and Tal Afar and partnership in the administration of Kirkuk province and turning it into a special new region and participate in the decision-making in Baghdad, were among the recommendations demanded in the conferences.

Turkmen people are the third ethnicity in Iraq, with at least 7% of Iraq’s population, according to local and international official figures. They live in the provinces of Mosul, Erbil, Kirkuk, Salahuddin, Diyala, Kut and Baghdad.
